Ah, summer, what power you have to make us suffer and like it. ~Russel Baker

Good Morning Sunshines!

I am back from a long June break in blogging. Summer came upon me and I was so far behind I thought I was first. Now the drought has stopped all progress and after leaving for 10 days on vacation and coming back most plants backslid instead of flourished. Except for the weeds. Some grew as tall as me in the heat. Let the battle continue... Japanese Beetles ate my roses and the automatic sprinkling missed part of the perennial garden and zucchini is dust, lettuce is bolted and tomatoes are iffy. All that after only a week and a half. Time to put on the big girl panties, poor myself an ice tea and get back out there. Horn worms beware.

I, still being on bloggers vacation, did not take many pictures but we had a great time. Here some trip highlights......

We visited downtown Saratoga, a favorite shopping spot filled with boutiques and restaurants. These horse sculptures are always good for a Kodak moment.

My niece, Me, my sister and my daughter
We chose the trip time this year based on my Nephew's high school graduation open house. My sister is the queen of throwing a large party with the most awesome food ever. Not just meatballs and veggie trays. Home made Baked Ziti, Mac and Cheese, Sausage and peppers, hamburgers, hotdogs, home made salsa for 200, baked beans, fruit and veggie trays, salad and this huge delicious cake. I know I am missing something but I ate it all so fast.
We had our annual clamfest again with my Bro in law's secret clam steaming recipe and home made pulled pork barbeque for the 4th. I am posting those recipes below.

Mike's clam brew
clams
can of beer
Old Bay seasoning

In a large pan, bring beer to a simmer and sprinkle on Old Bay to your liking add clams, cover and steam until they pop open. Dip in melted butter.  Easy Peasy

The barbeque is a crock pot recipe and also has just a few secret ingredients

Beth's Pulled Pork Barbeque
2 lb. pork loin
1 can of rootbeer
1 bottle of your favorite barbeque sauce

Put pork in slow cooker, poor soda on top, cover and cook on low for 6-7 hours until pork easily shreds.
Drain well and stir in barbeque sauce serve with toasted buns.
My sister also makes cole slaw which is served on top of the barbeque. Yummus

One last item to share.
Many of you love Pinterest and have gotten all kinds of ideas from there. My baby sis is no exception. I have to show you her wine bottle torches created from Pinterest. They are the coolest and I would love to make some for my deck. You can find detailed instructions on Pinterest.
Till next time. Remember,
Mid palaces and pleasures, though we may roam, be it ever so humble, there's no place like Home.
